And so it begins. The Depository will be published on Amazon on July 12, 2019. Pre-orders available here.
I think back to when I first sat down in one of the desks at the Downtown Vancouver Public Library branch in August 2014. At the time, I had decided to leave my then job at a boutique law firm. I loved the people that I worked with (for the most part), but I longed for change. And there was no better way than to just cut it clean. So I walked into the partner's office, closed the door and delivered the news.
It was scary, but liberating.
For some reason, I wanted to write a book. And so I sat down at that desk in the library with the weird rubber mat, put my head down and wrote At first, I wanted to write a book about something something I had first thought of in 2003, when I was an Arts major at UBC studying memory psychology.
But the stars were aligning in a different way. I wanted to write that story, about a city, where airships floated low in the air, watching your every move. The thought and the dream was ingrained in my mind. And when I switched gears to move to this project, the words just flowed.
A lot has happened since then. I started a new job in the public sector. I had a kid - this caused a three year hiatus for me. I moved to another part of Metro Vancouver. But I continued writing wherever I could.
I found inspiration in the beaches of south Spain. I brainstormed at the kitchen table in my little shoebox apartment in Vancouver. I fell asleep in countless coffee shops and libraries. I jotted down random notes on post-it notes and made shaky iOS voice recordings.
And now, it's almost out the door!
Thank you to all of you that have helped me on this journey. If you are interested in crazy stories, like Cowboys and Aliens, or anything by Richard Bard, this might be right up your alley.
